The General Corporation for Land Development continues the work of the project to rehabilitate the seventh sector of government irrigation in Albu Kamal in rural Deir Ezzor, which is being implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
The Director of Operations and Maintenance in the Lower Euphrates Basin, Eng. Hussein Hamdan, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the work on the project is taking place through three fronts, in which maintenance works target the main station of the project and the lifting station, in addition to the irrigation canals, with the aim of raising the pace of work to reach readiness that allows the possibility of operating and setting up the project. Hamdan indicated that the project, which extends in a number of towns and cities in the western Albukamal countryside, irrigates 7,582 hectares of agricultural land that went out of service during the previous years
The General Corporation for Land Development had introduced the irrigation projects in the third and fifth sectors into service at the end of the year 2020, after they were rehabilitated from the damage incurred by terrorism, and they irrigate about 15,000 hectares of agricultural land in the eastern countryside of the governorate
